30 Rules To Live By

30 Rules To Live By

We learn so many lessons as we get older, and the success we achieve is often determined by the rules we decide to follow. Every single one of us have rules we live by, whether we realise it or not, and some of those rules have a huge impact on our lives.

Here are a few of the rules I have learned so far:

  1. Never assume. Always question everything.
  2. Always be a little kinder than necessary.
  3. Always trust your gut.
  4. Help others without expecting anything in return.
  5. Never settle for second best.
  6. Never stop learning.
  7. Give credit where it’s due.
  8. Love what you do, or leave.
  9. If you open it, close it.
  10. Be a giver, not a taker.
  11. Never spend your money before you have it.
  12. When you’re angry, count to ten. If you’re very angry, count to 100.
  13. Never kill a spider.
  14. Help yourself first, so that you have more capacity to help others.
  15. Learn to be open to criticism, no matter how hard it may be.
  16. Don’t tell everyone all your problems all the time, you just become a pain.
  17. Never give out second chances; if they do it once they WILL do it again.
  18. Don’t gossip or speak badly of anyone.
  19. Never cheat on anyone, you will ruin their perception of love and trust forever, and that is the worst thing you could do to anyone.
  20. Never put off something for “tomorrow” that you can accomplish today.
  21. Share your knowledge; its a great way to achieve immortality.
  22. Be gentle with the earth.
  23. Never trouble someone to do something for you that you could do yourself.
  24. Work for a cause, not for applause.
  25. Never go to sleep on a row; always resolve your issues.
  26. Make peace with your past, so that it doesn’t ruin your future.
  27. Give it time; time heals almost everything, I promise.
  28. What others think of you is none of your business.
  29. Forgive your enemies, but remember their name.
  30. Something my grandad once told me: A happy wife is a happy life.

You are the victim of the rules you live by, so make sure that you’re a victim of fabulous-ness.

Do you have any rules that YOU live by? If so, let us know in the comments.

Welcome to my little corner of the interweb. I constantly strive to chronicle my existence through written word; which is much of what you'll find here. xox

  1. This is such a lovely idea for a post. You’ve covered so many different points and all of which I believe to be quite true. I really enjoyed reading this!
    Love Lauren xx

  2. Love it! Apart from the killing spiders one… i can’t help that i’m afraid haha
I wish everyone followed these rules

  3. Questioning everything can be exhausting, how about questioning things from suspect sources.

I think that questioning everything is something that comes naturally to some of us. Sometimes the biggest things that deceive us come from things we didn’t suspect in the first place – and that’s the way life works, so we should question everything!

  4. Great post! As you mentioned at the beginning, I didn’t realise how many rules I follow until I thought about it, thanks to your post! Number 20 is something I’m still working on, I’m such a procrastinator 🙁

I think it can be difficult to follow them all, due to us all having different personality traits – but it would be nice to follow them! 🙂

  5. Oh I love this post. Amazing 30 rules, Kirsty! Couldn’t agree more on #30 lol 😉

  6. Helping yourself first is DEFINITELY something I try to do. I felt quite selfish to begin with but if you don’t look after number one, how can you possibly look after anything/anyone else! xx
