The Comfort of a Rainy Day
It’s raining, it’s pouring… and this is a post about how to find comfort on even the cloudiest, and dullest of days! Like today!
As I type this I sit on my windowsill and watch the raindrops race down the window… you know that game we used to play as kids, guessing which droplet would win? Yeah I’m definitely not doing that instead of something productive.
On days like this it can be difficult to find the motivation needed to do the things we really should be doing instead of watching the rain fall… but it’s just so pretty!
I don’t know about you, but the rain makes me feel nostalgic, it makes me miss those times I would jump in puddles in my teletubbies wellies… the ones that slowly developed in to more stylish Hunter wellies over the years… we’ve all been there. And then it makes me miss my boyfriend, it makes me wish that he was here so that we could lie in bed and enjoy the sound of the rain and petrichor together… sigh!
So, here are a few of the things I like to do to get the most out of/enjoy these rainy days:
STAY IN BED – ALL DAY – WITH KITTENS AND FLUFFY THINGS
Staying in bed all day is something I love on days like these because the rain personally makes me sleepy, it’s just so soothing, and it makes cats sleepy, and sleepy cats are good for the soul, apparently! Ok I made that up but it’s basically true – sleep sleep and more sleep – since sleep is actually great for you anyway, why not do some more of it?! Catch those Z’s! ZZZzzzzz!!!
EAT LOTS OF COMFORT FOODS
Comfort food is basically my enemy… I love it but I hate it because it makes me fat but it also comforts me in sad times and on rainy days, me and my boyfriend have a habit of eating Burger King or KFC on Sundays which are mostly rainy days, today we ate McDonalds! The food is awesome and is a nice break from the usual fruit and veg I eat day in, day out, it can get a bit boring, y’know?! And rainy days are just another excuse to eat junk… I think it stems from my childhood, my mum used to cook me and my brother soup and then we’d all make fairy cakes together and the kitchen would steam up and it would smell all homely and sweet, it’s just one of those things I guess.
Catching up on my favourite blogs is another way I love to spend these days – just lay in bed with my phone or laptop and scroll through my bloglovin’ feed or seek out my fave blogs, I’m really loving CGD at the moment – it’s full of amazing tips and tricks and stories and even the photo’s they use are ace! Another thing to do is blog, it doesn’t have to be anything profound, just a short blog post, maybe about yourself? maybe a short Q and A or hey — even a post about the rain!
TAKE A HOT BUBBLE-BATH
Sylvia Plath once said “There must be quite a few things that a hot bath won’t cure, but I don’t know many of them.”That’s because it’s true, sinking in to a hot bath is an amazing feeling, it has also been scientifically proven that baths cure stress, the soapy water is good for your skin and your soul! But, baths aren’t complete without candles and bath bombs, especially the ones that smell nice… there’s a huge range of bath candles available actually, from cinnamon spice to pumpkin to vanilla, they all smell AMAZING! Bath bombs can be found in a lot of places these days, and Lush particularly sell a great range, so grab some candle and bubbles and have a whale of a time while the rain pours down outside… lovely!
PLAY SOME VIDEO GAMES
Playing video games is one of my favourite past-times, it’s so nostalgic sometimes if you play on one of the older consoles – I recently found my childhood gameboy and spent hours playing all of my old games and reminiscing so much so that it compelled me to go out and buy one of the newer versions which ended up being a 3DS XL which I’m now addicted to – you can get amazing R4 cards online and download hundreds and thousands of free games to play… I have about 400 now, from the brand new Mario games to the old school skating games, there’s such a huge variety and it’s so relaxing and fun to do on days like these! So what are you waiting for?!
